07/13/2012 - 2012 Team One South Showcase Manny is a strong and tall first baseman with an accurate arm. In the infield, he has good footwork around the bag and clean hands that help him pick it well on balls in the dirt. His defensive abilities should continue to develop as he learns to get a more natural feel for working low and through the baseball. At the plate, he has a comfortable setup and quick hands that force the ball to jump off the bat with good authority. His offensive tools should continue to improve when he gets a feel for engaging his lower half throughout his swing. As a 2013 graduate, Manny has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

05/27/2012 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Manny is a tall, athletic, 1st baseman with good skills. Defensively, Manny has soft / sure hands, fluid feet, and he fields in a low / athletic position. He keeps the ball in front, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a short arm action with carry and accuracy to his target. More aggressiveness and following his throws will only help defensive grades improve. At the plate, Manny has an open stance, good balance, and fast bat speed. He makes square / consistent contact, he swings in good rhythm, and he has good pop in his bat. Letting the ball travel deeper can help spike solid hitting grades.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
