Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Martinez continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Power grades are now well above average as he displays strength in his swing with baseball jumps off his bat through an aggressive approach. He did show on the mound for the first time with fastball displaying a range of 81-86 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball shows tight spin with late sharp break but needs to work on control of pitch. Marc is athletic as he will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his abilities at 3B and the plate.

07/20/2009 - College PREP - Carrollton (DFW), TX Marc is a physical 3B with arm strength and good glove work. Having seen him recently, we know that the arm works and the body will only continue to improve. Seeing him at the plate for the first time, he showed excellent bat speed, a direct path, and power to the pull side. He has some dive to his approach, but he delivers the barrel aggressively, and as he continues to work (particularly on foot speed and swing mechanics) he has a chance to be a corner guy with some pop at the next level.

05/17/2009 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Marcus is a 3B with a plus, athletic looking body that shows future projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is average as indicated by his 7.52 60 time and he would benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. He utilizes his feet well in coming to get and playing through the baseball with his feet and hands. He has an idea with his fielding as he gets his body and hands into a strong fielding position displaying above average fielding ability. Arm strength is outstanding as indicated by his 91 mph at the arm strength station. His throws display life, carry, and accuracy across the diamond. He makes throws from all angles. He did not have a chance to hit at the event due to an injury but he will get a ton of looks from the college coaches with his abilities in the IF and with his arm strength.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
