10/17/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Washington, DC Marcellus continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt, tracks ball well and sticks pitches in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.40. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

04/18/2021 - All-In Membership - Washington, DC Marcellus is an athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a firm mitt, sticking balls in the zone. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Pop times showed in 2.74 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss. At the plate he shows a closed setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. With 3 years to further develop, Marcellus has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
