07/28/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Marcus continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus, displaying gap-to-gap pop. Power will continue to improve as utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 2 for 3 for 4 BB as shows a patient approach and strong recognition of the strike zone. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.15 range. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft as he sticks balls well in the zone through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner to improve grade. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

05/21/2017 - College PREP - Redwood City (San Francisco/San Jose), CA Marcus is a talented catching prospect who has a strong build and skill on both sides of the ball. Behind the plate, Marcus has a solid setup and moves with fluid, agile actions. He stays square to the pitcher and receives the ball with soft hands. He has a quick exchange leading into a short arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has good momentum through his release and his throws are consistently online. Marcus effectively blocks the baseball being quick to his knees and creating effective angles. Offensively, Marcus has an open stance with his weight back. He takes an on-time load with a short stride. He has a long swing path and is developing bat speed. Marcus is a line drive hitter who drives the ball to the pull side. Overall, Marcus has an above average skill set and the talent to get even better.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
