Mario continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 77 mph. Fastball showed a range of 74-77 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sink. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 1B, he shows smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active and displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. Hands are clean is clean but needs to present earlier and more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn.
11/18/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Fall Prospects Tournament (HS)
Mario is a 2024 RHP/1B who showcased his skills during the Fall Prospects Tournament. At 1B, he starts with a good pre-pitch routine, with active/efficient footwork, and takes aggressive routes to balls. He works to center the baseball and has a quick/clean transfer. He made accurate throws from a high 3/4 arm slot, with a quick arm stroke, and an arm velocity up to 77mph. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and open stance. He hits into a firm frontside and is centered at contact. Showed natural juice in his swing as he hit balls into both gaps with a bat exit velocity up to 88mph. During the games, he reached base multiple times. A right-handed pitcher, he has a good mound presence with a confident demeanor. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot, with on-time separation, and has a controlled landing. He attacks hitters with a FB that topped out at 71mph, and an 11/5 shaped breaking ball. In 3 innings of work, he punched out 3 batters and didn't allow a run. We look forward to seeing what the future holds as Mario enters his junior baseball season.
12/14/2019 - Nor Cal Regional Pitching/Catching Weekend (Ages 12-14)
Mario is a coachable RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Accelerated Training Weekend. On the mound, Mario gathers over the rubber and works with a clean arm. He keeps his eyes on target and finishes square towards the plate. Mario shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 62mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 43-47mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 50-55mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes his stride on time. He is smooth getting into his load and maintains center balance. He takes a level swing with explosive bat speed, leading to loud contact and great raw power. Overall, Mario is a talented prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.
12/01/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Sacramento, CA
Mario raised arm velocity to 68 MPH, exit velocity to 84 MPH, and showed a spike in his power grade to 48 during his last workout. At 1B, Mario has active feet, good pre-pitch actions, and he keeps the ball in front of his body. He has a good backhand, a quick exchange, and he throws with accuracy from a quick release to his target. On the mound, Mario has good balance, he separates his hands on time, and shows a clean arm circle. He has a compact delivery, lands with good direction toward home plate, and he throws strikes. Offensively, Mario is a strong hitter with an athletic stance and good balance. He has plus bat speed, swings on plane, and has pop in his bat.
07/16/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14)
Mario is a young 2024 that plays 1B/3B. At 1B, Mario works hard getting to the ball and fields the ball with his glove out on time. His hands are soft and sure with a clean 2-hand exchange. He has a clean arm action and makes accurate throws with carry around the diamond. Working on his footwork and agility will improve Mario's range. At the plate, Mario sets up square with loose hands. He shows a smooth swing with fast bat speed making hard and consistent contact. His power shows more to the pull side. Working on engaging the lower half more will help improve his power. Mario has a good, strong base that he will continue to grow into as he matures.
01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14)
Mario is a coachable 3B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Spring Training in Arizona. In the field, Mario makes the routine plays and works to make accurate throws to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Mario improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He is on time getting into a small load and takes a level swing. He rotates his core well, leading to loud contact and solid pop to his pull side. Mario can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Mario gathers over the rubber and works inline towards the plate. His fastball tops out at 66mph. Taking a simpler starter step can improve Mario improve as a pitcher. With five more years to develop, Mario has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.
12/02/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Sacramento, CA
Mario is a young, solid corner INF with good skills. At 1st base, Mario moves well around the bag, footwork is playable, and he makes plays on balls hit his way. He keeps it in front of his body, his transfer is quick, and Mario throws with a loose arm action to his target. At 3B, Mario fields aggressively in a square position, flashes a good backhand, and throws with direction to his target. Offensively, Mario has a tall set-up, he loads well, and stands in with good balance. He has fast bat speed, makes hard/consistent contact, and can work the ball gap to gap. Overall skills can get better with work on the following.
