01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Flournoy had a solid event, especially at the plate where he was 3 for 6. He shows an open setup with quick hands that work to and through the baseball, creating extension. He has strength in his swing with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more. Behind the plate, he works to get rid of the baseball quickly with pop times continuing to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/19/2012 - Under Armour Fall Classic Mark continues to show plus abilities behind and at the plate. Feet are active as he works in line through a quick, clean transfer / exchange. Pop times where in the 2.10 range with carry / accuracy on his throws. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. He is a tough kid that shows solid leadership abilities. At the plate, setup is athletic with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. At the event, he was 2 for 6. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be.

07/13/2012 - 2012 Team One South Showcase Mark continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid 7.40 runner. He utilizes his quick feet well in working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the ball quickly. Receiving / blocking grades show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a short / direct path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off his bat when centered.

06/03/2012 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Flournoy shows improvements across the board since we first saw him 2 years ago. He now projects as a solid collegiate catcher prospect that will get a lot of looks from the collegiate coaches. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Defensively, his feet work well in line to his target on his throws. He shows a quick / clean transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He can catch and throw as he has really improved his pop times now showing a range of 1.99-2.08. Arm strength is above average, displaying carry and accuracy on his throws. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved as well, now showing as well above average. He displays an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, generating bat speed as he shows a feel for the barrel, mainly to the pull side. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more.

06/06/2010 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Mark is a young, 2013 graduate that shows as a catcher with a solid frame. Feet are active in working in line to his target but he needs to shorten his transfer and exchange in his upper half. His throws show carry and accuracy with pop times showing a range of 2.24-2.30. Receiving and blocking skills need further development to be quality tools at the next level. Offensively is where Flournoy shows best through a solid, balanced approach. Hands are quick, working through a level bat path. He has strength in his swing to the pull side. The baseball jumps off his bat when centered. With 2 years to further develop, Mark has potential to be a solid offensive and defensive catcher as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
