Official Scouting Report

  • OFPosition Projection

05/19/2013 - College PREP - Rochester, NY This left handed swinging OF is continually making strides to better his game. At the plate, his simple approach and good balance results in consistent contact. He utilizes his lower 1/2 well and is a line-drive type hitter. Defensively, he moves well to get into position behind the fly ball. He plays through the ball well and makes accurate throws to his target. With 2 more years, Mark will be a player to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.

12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Mark worked out both in the OF and on the mound during his time in Pirate City. Defensively, Mark takes good routes to the ball, he keeps it in front, and his exchange is clean. He has a short / quick arm action, and throws with some life to his target. On the mound, Mark has eyes on target, level shoulders, and good extension with his lead arm. Offensively, Mark has a good set-up, good balance, and he tracks the ball well. He has a good swing and can spray some to all fields.

02/17/2012 - Myrtle Beach College Kickoff Mark worked out at both OF and RHP during his time in Myrtle Beach. He currently projects best in the OF, but still has plenty of time to improve at both positions. Defensively, Mark showed a quick 1st step, a good fielding position, and he makes plays on balls hit his way. He has a good exchange, and throws with accuracy to his target. On the hill, Mark good balance, proper separation, and he competes in the zone. Offensively, Mark has an athletic set-up, a level swing, and good barrel accuracy. He makes consistent contact, and hustles down the line.

11/13/2011 - College PREP - Rochester, NY Mark is a very young two-way player that will graduate in 2015. In the outfield, he is aggressive to the ball, stays behind the ball to throw and makes accurate throws to his target. He needs to try and work on getting a lower approach to the ball, have a quicker exchange to throw and increase his arm strength. At the plate, he shows good balance throughout his swing, he makes good use of his lower half and finds his barrel consistently. He needs to continue to try and stay inside the baseball, shorten his swing getting to the zone and stay closed to get better use of all fields. On the mound, Mark shows a three quarter arm slot, is inline to his target and he finishes in a good fielding position. He is a bit of a thrower and needs to work on his mechanics, arm strength and off speed pitches. Mark is extremely young and will continue to develop with overall strength and quickness.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
