Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/CPosition Projection

07/23/2012 - 2012 Team One Northeast Showcase Marshal showed as a 3B at the event. Feet are active as he attacks ground balls and plays through balls as he presents hands out front. Throws are accurate with carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate is where Kiessling shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. At the event, he was 3 for 5 with a 2B and 3B.

06/06/2012 - Under Armour Southeast Regional Tournament Marshal continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He currently, projects best as a position player at C/3B for the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.63 runner. Behind the plate, feet are active and work in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. He threw his best pop time to date at 2.15. At 3B, feet are active as he attacks groundballs aggressively with his feet, playing through well. Hands are soft / clean displaying a sure glove action. At the plate, he shows quick hands that work through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered as he has improved his power grades. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 79-82 mph with slightly above average off speed pitches that show potential as being quality out pitches as he continues to improve. Mental makeup is a plus as he works hard, a tough kid and has a great personality.

04/22/2012 - College PREP - Philadelphia, PA Marshal worked out at catcher, 3B, and on the mound during his workout in St. Davids, PA. Behind the plate, Marshal has soft / sure hands, active feet, and he catches in a low / square position. He blocks well, gets to his feet quickly, and his exchange is clean. Marshal has a loose / quick arm action, and he throws with accuracy and life to his target. A lower receiving elbow and quicker exchange can help improve catching skills. At 3B, Marshal has soft / sure hands, active feet, and he moves well laterally. He makes plays, his exchange is quick and clean, and he throws with carry from a loose arm action. Fielding further out in front and not recoiling can spike defensive grades. On the mound, Marshal has a short / 3/4 arm slot, a controlled balance point, and he works quickly. He has level shoulders, good direction toward home, and his CB has good shape. Staying tall, more lower 1/2, and finishing off his pitches more will help abilities on the mound improve.

03/18/2012 - College PREP - Bowie, MD Marshal is a thin, athletic, 2-way player who catches and pitches. Behind the plate, Marshal has firm hands, active feet, and he looks the ball in well. He lets it travel, takes good angles when blocking, and he shows good body control. Marshal has a clean exchange, and he throws with a short / quick arm with accuracy and life to his target. More quiet and looser action, along with quickening his arm action can help improve catching skills. On the hill, Marshal has a short / loose arm action, a controlled balance point, and on-time separation. He has level shoulders, good direction toward home, and he is around the zone with his pitches. If Marshal can lengthen his arm action, stay tall, and use more lower 1/2, mound effectiveness can improve. Offensively, Marshal has a square / athletic set-up, good balance, and he tracks the ball well. He makes square contact, he can work the ball gap-to-gap, and he gets his lower 1/2 through. Staying short to the ball and getting more extension through can help spike offensive numbers.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
