Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

07/17/2012 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Marshall showed similar abilities as we had previously seen in Highstown, NJ. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to be presented more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, he shows a balanced approach. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. He needs to work to keep hands inside the ball and use his lower half more to improve hitting / power grades. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 76-77 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Changeup shows a solid feel for with arm side run.

03/11/2012 - College PREP - Hightstown, NJ Marshall is a young, tall, thin, 2-way player who pitches and plays 1st base. On the hill, Marshall has a long back arm action, a controlled balance point, and on-time separation. He has level shoulders, good direction toward home, and he finishes in an athletic position. Loosening his arm action, staying tall, and keeping his front side closed can help mound effectiveness get better. At 1st base, Marshall has okay hands and feet and he keeps the ball in front of his body. He has flexion in his body, his exchange is clean, and he throws with decent accuracy to his target. Quicker feet, softer hands, and adding arm strength can help abilities improve. At the plate, Marshall has an athletic set-up, a proper load, and good balance. He is a strong hitter with a level swing and he can spray to all fields. A smoother load and better use of his lower 1/2 can help hitting improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
