04/02/2017 - College PREP - Greensboro, NC Mason is a tall, solid and athletic OF/RHP who has a tremendous future on the diamond. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 60 time of 7.33. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Arm strength is well above average as indicated by his top velocity of 84 mph. Fastball showed a range of 80-84 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. He is aggressive and gets behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows well above average power through an open setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work to and through an aggressive swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power displaying best to the pull side. With 3 years to further develop, Mason has the makings of a special type player as he continues to progress his game, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
