12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Mason is a young OF/RHP that will graduate in 2019. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. In the OF, he utilizes his active feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he reads balls well off the bat. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases his foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He attacks the baseball and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 5 for 9. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 65-68 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he works to throw strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and develops better off speed stuff. Mental makeup is a plus as he shows a good upside, is very coachable, and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 4 years to further develop, Mason has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.
