12/20/2009 - College PREP - Agoura Hills, CA Matt is a young, athletic C, that hits from the left side. Behind the plate, Matt has good footwork, hands, and an accurate arm. For a 2011 grad, Matt is already above the avg Varsity mark for receiving and blocking, and should only get better. His hands are soft receiving, and he is quick downward when blocking. Matt's defensive ability can improve by quickening his feet and his release on the baseball. At the plate, Matt has good balance, bat speed, and quick hands. He has a quiet approach at the plate and squares the ball up on the barrel well. Matt can improve offensively by incorporating a proper load into his swing, along with more use of his lower 1/2. Overall, Matt is a young C with good instincts and a bright future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
