Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

01/25/2015 - College PREP - Jackson, MS Warren showed as a SS/RHP at the event and has improved his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 78 mph. Fastball showed a range of 76-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard. Stock on mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his feet well in lateral movement, displaying range. Hands / feet work well together as he gets around balls and plays through well. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through the ball, flashing extension. He works to stay inside the ball, using middle of field well. Power numbers will increase as he learns to use his lower half more aggressively.

07/12/2014 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Matt is an outstanding person that is a plus worker and plays the game hard. He continues to show as a SS/RHP but currently projects best at SS for the next level. In the IF, defensive grade have improved, now showing slightly above average abilities. He displays solid hands and moves well laterally, flashing range in the MIF. He works to get around balls but needs to attack more, play through while presenting hands more out front, and increase foot quickness to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, hitting grades have improved, now showing solid abilities. He loads well and shows quick hands that work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for barrel with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-73 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He shows good mound presence with stock rising as he continues to build more arm strength and throw more strikes.

01/26/2014 - National Tryout - Jackson, MS In Matt's most recent Baseball Factory outing he threw 4 MPH harder and dropped his home to first time by .3 seconds. On the mound, he threw his fastball with arm side run from 74-77 MPH. He flashed feel for his off-speed pitches and worked in the zone. He had a good pace that allowed him to repeat with his free arm action. Offensively, he hit with a direct route and line-drive path. He used the entire field and had good barrel accuracy. Overall - we enjoy tracking Matt's improvements from event to event, as he shows desire and passion to improve.

11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Matt is a skilled middle infielder who works hard on his game. Defensively, he shows good prep and works around the ground ball and into a square fielding position. He presents his glove out in front and fields the ball cleanly. Playing through the ball will help to improve defensive abilities. At the plate, this lefty shows a slightly open/upright stance with and solid load. He remains balanced throughout his swing and delivers the barrel on a level path. He is displays patience as he drew 3 walks at the event. Matt is coachable, asks questions and works hard to get the best out of himself everyday. As only a freshman, Warren will only continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
