11/11/2010 - Arizona Fall Select Training & Competition - 2010 Matt competed well both offensively and defensively during his time in Arizona. He ran his best 60 time to date at 8.89, which is down from 9.02. Defensively, Matt showed good footwork around the bag, and he squares his body properly. He turns double plays well and throws with accuracy to his target. At the plate, Matt had a single and double in game play . He showed a good load, rhythmic swing, and decent extension to and through the ball.

08/10/2010 - College PREP - La Jolla, CA Matt is a young, average sized, 1st baseman that will graduate in 2013. Defensively, Matt has active movements, is aggressive to the ball, and he fields the ball from the right. He makes plays on balls hit his way and throws with good accuracy to his target. Matt will need to add arm strength, lighten his feet, and loosen his glove in order to get better. Offensively, Matt has a nice set-up and proper load. He has average barrel accuracy and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. If Matt can lower his elbow, level off his swing, and use more top hand, average offensive numbers will get better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
