07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Yates showed on the mound and at 1B for the first time at the event. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean as he consistently shows the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. At the plate, he shows an athletic stance with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more and add more overall body strength. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 76-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with fading action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable.
