01/18/2013 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Matthew is a young RHP/OF that will graduate in 2017. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls but needs to improve foot speed, and work to get behind balls to play through and continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a balanced, open setup with rhythm. Hands work through a level swing path and he makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers continue to improve as he learns to use lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 61-63 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays hard. With 4 years to further develop, Matthew has abilities with time and room to improve.
