11/16/2014 - College PREP - Marlborough (Boston), MA Matt, now a sophomore, showed improvement with his 8.75 60 and defensive/offensive ratings. At the hot corner, Matt showed the ideal arm slot with accurate throws. His range/glove to the glove side are above average and works with momentum to his target. At the plate, he remains in a square stance with some balance. He sprays it all around the field with a line drive swing. Continuing to gain strength and working on footwork (speed/agility), Matt will see his abilities improve.

11/08/2014 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Commuter Matt continued to show improvements at the hitting weekend. He is a great kid and has a fantastic work ethic, allowing him to make great adjustments at the plate. As a hitter Matt shows a good stance and setup, trying to maintain an athletic posture throughout the swing. He also shows a solid stride foot, striding softly to the balls of his foot, and keeping his stride square to the pitcher. To improve his game at the plate Matt needs to continue to work on leveling his swing path, and also getting his lower half to work with his upper body during the swing.

07/17/2013 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 2 Matthew continued to show why he is one of the most coachable players we work with - in Cape Cod. His desire and passion for the game and his willingness to improve, allow Matt to make great strides forward. At the hot corner, he has an ability to make plays and is not afraid to body up the balls to keep them in front. Offensively, he has good rhythm in his setup and keeps good control over his head. He worked to stay level with his swing path and become more patient at the plate. Matt even jumped on the bump to pitch an inning of continuous strike throwing with no fear for contact. Overall, Matt brings an unmatched energy to the dugout/ball park and we look forward to tracking his progress.

01/18/2013 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at the Yankees Training Complex Matthew is a great kid who showed the willingness to listen and work on making adjustments. At 3B, Matt showed accurate throws working through the ball. He works to get around the ball and bodies the ball up. He can focus on working on his overall footwork developing quicker feet through agility drills, which will help him reach a stronger fielding position. On the mound, Matt showed good mound presence and composure. His balance point is controlled while keeping his shoulders level. He will need to work on making sure he stays in line with his target as well as getting extension finishing his pitches. Offensively, Matt shows quick hands and good balance. Hitting grades will improve as he reaches a stronger load with his hands back before the ball enters the hitting zone. Matt will show improvement in his game by working on the areas above.

10/21/2012 - Interactive Video Program - Marlborough (Boston), MA Matthew is a 3B who graduates in 2016. Defensively, he displays playable footwork and good range to his glove side. He works to get in a square fielding position and makes the plays. Offensively, he shows a square setup and takes a short stride while maintaining good balance. He has a short swing path and has a line-drive approach. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
