08/04/2010 - Pirate City World Series 2010 - Session 1 Clarke showed as a two-way player on the mound plus at 1B for the first time. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. Feet are active in coming to get and playing through the baseball with feet / hands. He shows solid footwork around the bag, displaying soft, sure hands with the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Offensively, Matthew shows a balanced approach and makes consistent contact but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential at the plate with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 70-72 mph.

06/13/2010 - College PREP - Medford (Boston), MA Matt is a tall, thin, LHP that will graduate in 2011. On the mound, Matt has a loose arm and good lefty movement. He gets good push off the rubber and has good arm speed with his CH. Matt is an effective Pitcher who hides the ball well. If Matt can keep his front side closed and finish off his pitches better, abilities on the mound can get better. Offensively, Matt has good bat speed and barrel accuracy. He tracks the ball well, has a good trigger, and can hit the ball hard the other way. Less noisy hands and more direct hands to the ball, along with more lower 1/2 will help offensive tool grades further improve. Matt has big upside on the mound and has the makings of a good college pitcher.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
