09/12/2021 - All-In Membership - Pearland, TX Matthew is a C who will graduate in 2023. Medium frame lean build with some strength present and room to add throughout. Behind the plate, he showed active/fluid footwork and good agility. He tracks well and works his glove around the baseball. Presents a good target, who hinges at elbow, and works his thumb under keeping balls in the strike zone. Good direction towards second base with a short arm and an arm velocity of 79mph and a best pop time of 2.06 seconds. Creates good blocking angles and ability to roll shoulders and keep balls in front. A right-handed hitter, he hits from an upright and open stance. Simple swing, with an on-time stride, and ability to control the barrel. Direct barrel path who kept bat in hitting zone for a long time. He sprayed balls to all fields during BP with a bat exit velocity up to 77mph. Another year of growth and development will bode well for his opportunities at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
