12/27/2009 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic 2009 Matt is a strong, thick, athletic 1B that will graduate in 2010. Defensively, Matt has good hands and feet. His arm strength is solid and he moves well laterally. Matt has a good presence over at 1B, his glove is effective, and he has simple actions. With more extension, and a little softer hands, Matt can improve defensively. At the plate, Matt has good balance and bat speed. He is a strong, aggressive hitter that tracks the ball well. Matt gets good extension to the baseball, can hit the ball to all fields, and has pop into the gaps. If Matt can work to let the ball travel a little deeper, and stride softer, already solid offensive numbers can improve. Overall, Matt is a player with good baseball instincts and play skills.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
