09/05/2010 - College PREP - Azusa, CA Matthew is an OF with a tall, lean frame that is well suited for his position and shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is solid average as indicated by his 7.29 60 time. Feet are active but needs to work on taking body routes / angles in tracking down balls in working to get behind balls to play through with momentum to his target. He closes well on ground balls and uses his body to throw, showing accuracy on his throws but will benefit by getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength and carry on throws. Offensively, France shows a balanced approach with hands working inside the ball, utilizing all fields as he makes consistent contact. He uses his lower half well with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Matthew has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
