12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Matthew is an athletic SS that will graduate in 2016. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 7.16 60 time. Defensive grade are well above average, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he attacks balls and plays through well presenting hands out front. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick, through a level swing path through an aggressive approach. He has pop in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and works hard to be the best player he can be. Matthew has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
