06/17/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Matthew is a hardworking outfield prospect who plays the game the right way and graduates in 2018. In the field, Matthew plays with active footwork and makes all the routine plays. He takes effective angles to field the ball in an athletic position with soft hands. He has a clean exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. Matthew does a nice job playing through the baseball with good momentum towards his target producing consistently accurate throws. As a left-handed hitter, Matthew has a square setup with his weight in the front of his stance. He takes a short stride and uses his lower half throughout his swing. He has a good approach and is developing bat speed. Matthew has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Overall, Matthew has a well-rounded skill set with the right approach and upside to take his game to the next level.

12/27/2016 - College PREP - Swarthmore (Philadelphia), PA Mathew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Barrel accuracy is a plus and utilizes his lower half well through the swing. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Hands are clean but will benefit by presenting more out front.

11/10/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Matthew continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. In the OF, he communicates well with other outfielders. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in working to get behind balls. Range will increase as he improves his foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Barrel accuracy is a plus and has some strength in his swing. At the event, he was 2 for 6 with 2 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be.

07/18/2016 - College PREP - Rindge, NH Matthew is a lean OF who will graduate in 2018. In the OF he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He is aggressive and works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to target. At the plate he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing. He makes consistent contact and works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, Matthew has potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
