07/17/2017 - College PREP - Minneapolis, MN Matthew is an athletic, lean C/2B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Behind the plate, hands / feet work well together through a clean transfer / exchange in getting rid of the baseball. Pop times show a range of 2.15-2.22 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Hands are soft and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking and is a wall behind the plate. At 2B, feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Athletic abilities are present through his feeds of the double play. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. With 2 years to further develop, Matthew has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
