01/07/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (AZ) Matthew is a 2022 RHP/SS prospect who showcased his skills during the Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-American Tournament. On the mound, he has an easy delivery and picks up his target early. He separates his hands on-time, with a clean arm stroke. He keeps the ball down and tries to pitch ahead in count. He attacks hitters with a FB that topped out at 85mph with good tailing action, an 11/5 shaped breaking ball with late break, and a changeup with arm side run that he throws for strikes. In 2 innings of work, he punched out 4 hitters and induced soft contact. In the field, he creates good fielding angles, with efficient footwork, and closes distance on batted balls. He fields from an athletic fielding position with soft hands out front. A quick/clean exchange who gets rid of the baseball and throws from multiple arm slots. Throws were accurate and on-line to first base, with good carry, and an arm velocity up to 86mph. At the plate, this right-handed hitter hits from an athletic and open stance. Intent in swing, with a strong base, and showed ability to barrel up baseball. Hits with a strong lower 1/2 and a fast barrel through the hitting zone. Showed a direct barrel path as he hit line drives to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 87mph. With another year of continued growth and development, we see this 2-way prospect making huge strides on the baseball field and having the potential to play at the next level.

02/12/2021 - Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic (HS - West) Matthew is an athletic RHP/SS prospect who showed well during the Opening Day Classic. On the mound, Matthew gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He accelerates through his release and keeps his pitches around the zone. Matthew shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 85mph. Breaking ball sits from 70-72mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 73-75mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. In the field, Matthew shows active footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. His exchange is clean and he gets rid of the ball quickly, making strong/accurate throws through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance with his hands held high. He gets into a simple load and drives through well with his lower half. He gets good extension through the ball with fast bat speed, leading to strong gap to gap power (92mph exit velo). Overall, Matthew is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Matthew is a lean and athletic 2022 2-way prospect. At SS, Matthew is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and he plays through the ball. He has a two handed exchange and makes accurate throws. At the plate, Matthew starts in a squared stance, he loads his hands back into the drive position, and he rotates his backside. He attacks the inside part of the ball and he looks to drive the ball to all fields. On the bump, Matthew has good mound presence, he throws his fastball for strikes, and he has a tight breaking ball. He finds a balance point, he separates on time, and has a clean arm action. Matthew will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
