10/03/2010 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Matt participated in Trenton as both a RHP and Catcher and showed some similar abilities. Behind the plate, Matt is a good target with good flexion and who sticks the ball well. He deadens the ball softly when blocking and keeps it in front. Matt throws accurately to his target with good carry. Matt will need to quicken his exchange and add arm strength in order to improve behind the plate. On the mound, Matt has a loose arm action and throws a heavy ball. He has a simple delivery and his CH compliments his FB well. If Matt can improve his glove side lead and finish off his pitches better, mound effectiveness will further improve. Offensively, Matt has average balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He tracks the ball well, has a level swing, and the ball jumps off the bat when properly centered. Matt will need to loosen his actions and have more direct hands to the ball in order for average hitting numbers to get better.

06/24/2010 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2 Matt is a young two-way player on the mound plus a catcher with a tall, thin frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature, filling out. Currently, he projects best on the mound for the next level. Delivery is sound, showing proper mechanics as he works on a strong downhill plane. Fastball shows a range of 80-83 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch, displaying 11/5 shape with tight spin and short, late break. Changeup shows average feel for with arm side run. He attacks hitters throwing strikes with all his pitches, changing speeds well. Behind the plate pop times show a range of 2.09-2.30 with a means of 2.18. Receiving and blocking skills are near average, needing further development for the next level. Offensively, Kramer has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off his bat when centered but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving quickly with instruction and adjustments. With 2 years to further develop, Matt has a lot of potential, especially on the mound, where he will get looks from collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
