08/04/2010 - College Prep Super Regional - Spokane Valley, WA - AM Matthew is a young two-way player on the mound plus at SS with solid average body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Currently, he projects best at SS for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in coming to get, playing through with his body. Glove action is soft, clean, and sure in making the plays. Throws show accuracy but will benefit by getting on a long toss program to develop more carry. Offensively is where Matson shows best through a solid setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level path. Power is best to the pull side due to long swing path with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-72 mph. Off speed pitches are below to near average, needing further development to be quality pitches at the next level. With 2 years to further develop, Matthew has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his abilities at SS.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
