03/07/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Bowie, MD Matthew is a 2022 C/1B. Tall frame strong athletic build with plenty of room to fill out. Primary C showed good athleticism behind the plate on defense. Good hands receiving the ball with a quick release to second base. Lower half mobility for his size who creates good blocking angles. Arm strength was present and stays on top of the ball well with a pop time of 2.02. Secondary first baseman gets into an athletic and square fielding position. Loose arm action from a high 3/4 arm slot with clean transfers. Glove side turn to start double plays and showed good bag awareness taking return throws. Left-handed hitter a tall stance and short/square stride. Gets on plane early and barrel stays in zone throughout. Has strength at contact and can drive the ball with carry. Bat exit velocity of 84mph. Given his size, strength and tools, it easy to project Matthew having a future at the next level with continued development.

11/14/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Hampton, VA This strong, LHH 2-way player continues to progress on the diamond. Offensively, Matthew stands in athletically with fluid rhythm to load. Quick hands whip the barrel to and through the zone with + bat speed as he connects and creates consistent/hard contact. Behind the dish, he sits in with good flexion while presenting a low/soft target. He is quick laterally and centers pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Transfer is clean with accuracy on his throws down to 2B - with pop times remaining in the low 2's. At 1B, he moves well right to left into an athletic fielding position behind the GB. Hands are presented out in front as he has the ability to pick it. At 6'4", he's a great target for his fellow INF's to throw to as he also displays quick footwork around the 1B bag. Neach is a talented prospect who has upside as he approaches his junior season.

03/17/2019 - College PREP - Ashburn (DC), VA Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate he shows flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he utilizes his body well and is a wall. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.15 with on line zip (83 mph velocity) through his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a solid line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 75 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/22/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Matthew is an athletic and talented 2-way prospect and worked hard and made several adjustments throughout the week at Pirate City. Behind the dish, Matthew presents a low target and works behind the ball. He's a blocking machine that kept everything in front of him in the games. His reactions to the ball were very impressive and his technique was solid. He needs to continue to exchange the ball in front of his body and create momentum in his lower half to create good direction in his throws. At the plate, Matthew has a smooth load, he creates back hip rotation, and keeps the barrel on plane. He See the ball deep into the contact zone and drives the ball to all fields. On the bump, Matthew gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and extends thru his release point. He throws a high volume of strikes with his fastball and has an 11-5 break on his breaking ball. Developing a change up will allow him to work off his fastball more efficiently. Matthew will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

03/18/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Ashburn (DC), VA Matthew is a young, 2-way player with a good pitchers frame. Behind the plate, Matthew has active feet, clean hands, and he presents his glove well. He deadens well when blocking, has a quick/clean exchange, and throws with accuracy and consistency to his target. On the mound, Matthew has an athletic delivery, a clean arm circle, and a controlled landing with a good finish. Offensively, Matthew has an athletic set-up, he loads well, and has very fast bat speed. He finds the barrel, makes hard contact, and has good power in his stick. Matthew can improve skills with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
