Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

02/28/2021 - All-In Membership - Daytona Beach, FL Matthew continues to show improvements in his foot quickness as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present earlier and more out front. Range will improve as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach.

05/24/2020 - Official Player Development Membership - Daytona Beach, FL Matthew is a tall 1B prospect who will graduate in 2026. In the field, Matthew shows active footwork and covers ground well. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gains ground well on his throws, keeping them on-line to his target. Staying low on backhand plays can help Matthew improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He generates fast bat speed and gets good extension through the ball, leading to loud contact and gap to gap pop. Matthew can improve as a hitter by maintaining center balance throughout his swing. With six more years to develop, Matthew has the time and potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
