06/18/2010 - USA Baseball 16U Championships (FL) - 2010 Parrish not only continues to show quality baseball tools but also a plus mental makeup that will make a college coach very happy. He works hard and completes the little things that makes a plus player. Pop times showed a range of 2.07-2.13 as he threw out 4 runners during the week. Leadership abilities are a plus as he takes control of a game from behind the plate. He did show in the OF where foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.28 runner. Offensively, Matt shows a simple approach, getting his body into a strong launch position. Hands are quick, generating bat speed as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. At the event, he was 3 for 15 with 2 2B and hit sevearal balls hard. With 2 years to further develop, Parrish is going to make a college coach very happy with his demeanor on and off the field.

06/19/2009 - USA Baseball 16U Championships (FL) - 2009 Mathew is a young, 2012 graduate that shows a catcher with an average, thin frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is average and he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active and work in line to his target through an efficient transfer / exchange. Pop times are slightly above average as he shows near above average arm strength. He will benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, lowering pop times. Receiving and blocking skills are solid average and shows flashes as being quality skills at the next level. At the plate, Parrish has near above average abilities with solid average power. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball, generating bat speed as he keeps the barrel through the baseball at the point of contact. Swing path is level as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with pop. The baseball jumps off his bat when centered. He was 8 for 12 at the event with 4 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude with a tremendous desire to learn. With 3 years to further develop, Mathew has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
