10/03/2010 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Matt again showed solid skills in the INF during his most recent workout in Trenton, NJ. He is an athletic player with good hands and feet. Matt has soft hands, he works from the right side, and he fields the ball out in front of his body. He plays on the balls of his feet, gets rid of it quickly, and throws with accuracy and carry to his target. Matt can further improve his INF skills if he can get his glove down sooner and finish off his throws. Offensively, Matt has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He has a solid set-up, and quick / direct hands to the baseball. Matt flashes pop in his bat, he can spray to all fields, and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. A shorter, more rhythmic swing will only help offensive numbers get even better.

05/16/2010 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Matt is an athletic SS with a good set of baseball skills. At SS, Matt has soft hands, good range, and easy motions. He looks the part at SS, has a smooth back hand and follows his throws to his target. Matt has an accurate throwing arm, and if he can start in a lower fielding position and add arm strength, solid defensive grades can further improve. Offensively, Matt has good balance and bat speed. He has a level swing, can work the ball to all fields, and has good barrel accuracy. Matt will need to finish off his swing and use more lower 1/2 to improve offensive numbers.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
