10/11/2023 - Arizona Freshman Fall Classic (2027) Matthew continues to shine with his baseball abilities at the Arizonia FR Fall Classic. At 3B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 3 for 7 with a 2B. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 73-77 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

08/07/2023 - National Showcase - Chicago, IL Matthew continues to show as a prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.15 runner. At 3B, defensive abilities are well above average as he shows smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork in attacking and playing through ground balls well. Hands are clean and presents out front. He utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved, now displaying solid abilities through an open setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 71-73 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Cutter is harder with tight spin and short break. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound.

12/27/2022 - Baseball Factory East Coast Winter Classic Matthew is a class of 2027 3B/RHP prospect. His bat stands out amongst the rest of his game with his exit velos up to 78 MPH. He showed the ability to get on plane with the baseball often and was able to record multiple extra base hits in live game action. He also did a great job using his lower ½ in his swing. In the field, he was able to show some athleticism by using multiple arm angles to throw across the diamond. He showed a good prep step that helps him activate his feet before the ball is hit his way. On the mound, he did a good job of competing in the strike zone. He showed a plus ability to control the run game along with good body language. He delivered pitches from a ¾ arm slot. Matthew is a good player that has a chance to stand out at the plate at the next level.

10/02/2022 - Official Player Development Membership - Rosemont (Chicago), IL Matthew is a solid RHP/3B who has a promising future on the diamond. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick (and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-68 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with running action. Slider has spin but resembles breaking ball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 5 years to further develop, Matthew has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
