11/07/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Manalapan, NJ Matthew is a C who will graduate in 2022. Medium frame athletic build with strength present and room to add throughout. At C, he has an easy sit, with active feet, and presents a low target. Gains ground to second base, with good direction, and a clean transfer. He made on-line throws from an over the top release point with an arm velocity up to 75mph and a best pop time of 2.67 seconds. Showed good spine angle on his blocks with ability to cover the 5-hole. At the plate, he hits from a crouched and even stance. Gets a good rear hip coil, with a square glide step, and has intent in his swing. Showed ability to get on-plane early and had a fast barrel through the hitting zone. He hit line drives consistently to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 77mph. With another year of development, we foresee Matthew having a bright future on the baseball field.

01/03/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Milton, NY Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.45 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 2B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

09/19/2020 - Fall Pro Training Experience - NJ (HS) Matthew continues to shine on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.50. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

08/11/2020 - All-In Membership - Trenton, NJ Matthew is a R/R 2-way player as a C/2B. Behind the dish, he sits in well and presents a low/soft target. He is quick laterally and works to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off of his chest keeping the ball in front. Transfer is clean and he works in-line toward 2B on his throws down - pop times of 2.70. At 2B, he hustles into an athletic fielding position and tracks GB's into his mitt. DP feeds and turns are efficient as he has quick footwork around the bag. Developing his footwork/agility will help to increase his lateral range. With the bat, this righty has a tall/open stance with a quiet head tracking pitches into the zone. He jumps on ones he likes, barreling the ball up and looking the drive the middle of the field. Working to stride more square while engaging/driving his lower 1/2 will help to add more power. Yee (2022 grad) has skills with still time to progress.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
