Official Scouting Report

12/27/2012 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Vero Beach Max is a big strong kid that shows a lot of potential. In the field, he shows above average footwork around the bag with good awareness and presents a big target. He has a good feel for the game and positions himself well. He can continue to focus on improving overall foot speed to help with routes and angles to the ball. On the mound, Max continues to show a solid balance point with good separation. He does a good job competing in the zone but will need to work on developing a secondary pitch. Pitching grades will improve as he finishes his pitches getting more extension ( Towel drill will help with this). At the plate, Max shows the most potential, flashing power from gap to gap. He is a strong kid who lets the ball travel, which allows him to use the opposite field. His lower half is strong and he makes consistent contact. He can focus on making sure he gets his front foot down in enough time to attack the inside pitch. Overall, Max showed that he is very coachable, responding well to the instruction that he was given. This will go a long way as he keeps his overall baseball skills.

12/08/2012 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 14-18) Max is a young big strong ball player with great hands with explosive bat speed. He displays a simple set up, with a short load, and short quick hand path to the baseball allowing him to square up the baseball. Max also displays great power, because he has great lower body and upper body connection allowing his body to work together, getting the most out of his swing. Max needs to stay athletic during the swing, he tends to let his hips drift and lifting his shoulder at contact which throws his swing off balance at times. If he focuses on simplifying the stride and load and getting a good base at the launch position he will eliminate his drift allowing him to stay balanced through the swig which will allow him to get even more out of his swing.

10/14/2012 - Interactive Video Program - Baltimore, MD Max is a tall, 2-way player who pitches and plays 1st base. On the mound, Max has a loose arm action, eyes on target, and he repeats his delivery well. He has some glove side lead, good direction toward home, and he finishes in an athletic position. At 1B, Max presents his glove well, he has active feet, and he fields in an athletic position. He has a clean exchange and throws with accuracy to his target. At the plate, Max has an open stance, good balance and fast bat speed. He makes consistent contact, he has a line drive approach and he gets his lower 1/2 through. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Stay tall
2. Work in better rhythm
3. Long toss
Defense
1. Loosen actions
2. Backhand
Offense
1. Liven hands
2. Finish swing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
