12/28/2023 - National Showcase - Milton, NY Max is a RHP/OF in the 2025 graduating class. He continues to show improvement in all facets of his game. In the OF shows active feet with a good pre-pitch routine. Good 1st step reads help him create fielding angles. Has good carry on his throws into infield with an arm velocity up to 79mph. A right-handed pitcher who shows a loose arm stroke with ability to pound the strike zone. He works with good direction and gets his chest over his front knee. He challenges hitters with FB that topped out at 73mph with arm side run and plus command. He mixes in a cutter, an 11/5 shaped breaking ball with good depth, and a changeup with good movement that he throws with FB arm speed. At the plate he hits from a tall and athletic stance. Has a controlled load and gets his hands activated. Shows ability to keep his weight between his knees. Hit balls to all fields during his round of BP. Max should have opportunities to play at the next level with continued growth and development.

08/13/2023 - National Showcase - Binghamton, NY Max is a lean OF/RHP who will graduate in 2025. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 70-71 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. With 2 years to further develop, Max has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
