Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/SSPosition Projection

06/06/2010 - College PREP - Troy (Albany), NY Max worked out in Albany, NY at the SS position and showed improvements in his fielding and arm grades. He improved his raw radar velocity from 79 to 82 MPH. Defensively, Max's hands and feet play well together, and he shows good athleticism. He has a good set-up, attacks the ball aggressively, and has an early glove. Max has a good exchange and an accurate arm across the diamond. Quicker feet and a better 1st step will help Max improve defensively. Max may be better suited for 3B at the next level. Offensively, Max has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He has a loose grip, line drive approach, and pull side pop. More lower 1/2 and a more compact swing could help improve already solid offensive grades.

10/21/2009 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic - 2009 Nagelsmith has improved his baseball abilities as he shows as a solid player. Arm strength has improved to solid average as his throws show life, carry, and accuracy across the diamond. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in working around to through the baseball with his feet and hands, improving defensive abilities to near above average. At the plate, Max continues to shine improving hitting abilities to above average through a balanced approach. He loads well, transferring weight properly through the swing as he shows a solid feel for the barrel. He was 7 for 13 with a 3B at the event.

08/05/2009 - Pirate City World Series - Session 2 Max continues to show a lot of improvements in his baseball abilities. Arm strength has improved and will benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry on throws. Defensive abilities have really improved, now showing solid average abilities. Hand and feet work well together through the fielding and throwing process. He shows a feel for the game and plays hard. At the plate is where Naglesmith has improved the most now showing solid average abilities with above average power through an aggressive approach. He works to keep hands inside, utilizing all fields with baseball jumping off bat when centered. He was 6 for 11 with 2 2Bs at the event.

06/07/2009 - College PREP - Troy (Albany), NY Max is an infielder with an average build and room to grow and mature. In the field Max has good lateral movement, soft hands, an accurate throwing arm, and displays excellent hustle and determination. He can improve his stock by learning to field the ball out in front rather than deep in his body. Arm strength is slightly below average for a short stop and may project better as a second baseman. I strict long toss program is recommended. At the plate Max has good balance, a level swing, and tracks the ball well. He will become a better hitter by making some mechanical adjustments. Max wraps his arms around the baseball causing a long swing and a loss of power. Overall Max is near average is all categories

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
