01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Historic Dodgertown
Maxwell is an athletic and talented 2024 Catching prospect that continues to improve each event. Behind the dish, Maxwell is athletic to block the ball but needs to continue to lead with his glove and improve hip mobility. He needs to start in a balanced primary and athletic secondary stance. Presenting a low target and working behind the ball will improve his receiving skills as well. When throwing he stands tall and opens up his front shoulder. He needs to continue to exchange the ball in front of his body, create momentum into the ball, and take a short jab step to the base when throwing. At the plate, Maxwell starts in a tall and comfortable stance. He gets his backside through the ball and makes consistent hard contact to all fields. Continuing to load his hands back into the drive position, keeping a quiet head, and attacking the inside part of the ball will help him to have a more compact swing. Maxwell is a coachable prospect and we hope to see him continue his progress into the future.
04/07/2018 - Mid Atlantic Regional Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Ages 12-14)
Maxwell is a hardworking and coachable prospect that made several adjustments during the Mid Atlantic Regional Accelerated training weekend. At the plate, Maxwell starts in a closed stance and has a slight load back into the drive position. He stays balanced through contact and keeps his barrel on plane with the ball. Continuing to create more rhythm in his hands pre-pitch and working his backside into the ball will allow him to drive the ball gap-gap more consistently. He also needs to continue to work on keeping his chest behind his front knee at contact and getting extension through the ball. Maxwell will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.
