06/14/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Maxwell only showed at 1B at the event but has really improved his baseball abilities. Defensive abilities are now outstanding, displaying smooth / clean actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. He moves well laterally, displaying range. At the plate, hitting / power grades are now outstanding through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a great feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 4 for 10 with a 2B.

01/12/2014 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Max is a junior 1B that showed as a good athlete - running a 7.37 sixty. Offensively, he has quick hands and pull pop. He displayed hand/hip coordination and will continue to improve his numbers as he strengthens over the next couple of years. Defensively, he had ready hands and glove side range. He can continue to improve his footwork and patience to stretch - but currently does a fine job. In all - Max is a projectable athlete that should have a solid junior season.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
