03/19/2017 - College PREP - Greenville, SC Mendel continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and is a prospect on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an excellent runner at 6.96. In the MIF, defensive abilities have really improved, now showing outstanding abilities as he displays quick / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around and plays through balls with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with life, accuracy, and on line carry across the diamond. At the plate, he has improved, now displaying outstanding hitting abilities with well above average power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing, works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields, and shows a solid feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop.

08/08/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Mendel is an athletic 2B who will graduate in 2018. Offensively, he impressed with his explosiveness and power to all fields. He starts in an athletic crouch, taking a short/quick stride and loading his hands on time, finishing by exploding his lower 1/2. Adding rhythm to his swing will help with comfort at the plate. At 2B, he is clean with his actions, taking good angles to the ball, staying low and presenting his glove out in front. He also shows the ability to make quick/clean throws from multiple arm angles. Mendel is an impressive prospect who will certainly catch the eyes of college coaches.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
