Official Scouting Report

07/07/2015 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Michael improved his pop times at the event as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.2. He works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Throws are accurate with times continuing to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools as he continues to get more reps and increases foot quickness. At the plate, he shows soft setup with balance. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path as he works to get stride foot down sooner to be on time and keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively and adds overall body strength.

07/07/2014 - National Tryout - Trenton, NJ Mike showed his best ability to date at his most recent Baseball Factory outing. Offensively, he hit with quiet actions and a level path. He stayed compact and squared balls up with fluidity. Defensively, he presented his hands in front and was soft/sure with the glove. He looked the ball in and anticipated to block. Adding arm strength and following his throws will increase pop times and defensive ability. All in all - Mike has another 3 years to add reps and strength to his game for high level play.

02/23/2013 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Michael is a solid young hitter with very good upside. He does a very good job of using the body efficiently during the swing. Not only does he use the body to swing the bat getting the most out of his swing, he does a good job of keeping his body posture during the swing. Michael needs to focus on getting his front foot down in time, he tends to be late with the front foot causing his swing to be rushed at times. Also he needs to allow his hands and wrist to work to deliver the barrel to the baseball, at times he doesn't get the barrel completely delivered resulting in a late barrel and a lot of ground balls to the right side.

11/15/2012 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Michael is a solid young catcher who will start high school next year. Behind the plate, he has sure clean hands with great body control. He does a good job blocking and is on time. When blocking he can focus on covering the 5-hole and tuck his chin more. Michael can also benefit from agility work moving side to side. At the plate, Michael shows a smooth load, getting his hands back and front foot down. He has a quick hand path with a middle approach. Hitting grades will improve as he learns to center his weight, and as his hips and hands stay connected working together. Michael shows a solid foundation and should be a special player at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
