04/28/2024 - National Showcase - Binghamton, NY Michael continues to impress with his baseball abilities on the diamond. At 2B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls but needs to play through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present earlier and more out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 63 mph. Fastball showed a range of 61-63 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sink. Slider is slightly harder with tight spin and short break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

08/13/2023 - National Showcase - Binghamton, NY Michael continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, defensive abilities have improved as he shows smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork in attacking and playing through ground balls well. Hands are clean and presents out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 59 mph. Fastball showed a range of 58-59 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound.

07/06/2023 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (MS) Michael is a 2027 2B/RHP who improved his skills during the BF Select Training and Competition in Cape Cod. At 2B works to center the baseball and fields from a square fielding position. Made accurate throws to first base from a low 3/4 arm slot and an arm velocity up to 57mph. On the mound he works with good tempo and picks up his target early. He attacks hitters with a FB that topped out at 57mph with some arm side run, an 10/4 shaped breaking ball, a slider from the same window, and a developing changeup. In an inning of work, he struck out 1 batter and threw 50% of pitches for strikes. At the plate he hits from an athletic and closed stance. He rotates well to the ball and keeps his hands inside the ball. In live game action he reached base 2 times with a walk and was hit by a pitch. He added an RBI. Michael worked hard and made huge stride during his week in Cape Cod. We look forward to seeing him at another event in the near future.

04/23/2023 - National Showcase - Binghamton, NY Michael Boyle is a SS/RHP in the 2027 class. In the field, he shows the ability to understand the responsibilities of playing the position. He moves well from arm side to glove side and stays low on his feeds. Working to pay lower to the ground will allow him to choose his hops and stay in his legs on his throws. On the mound, he shows solid poise and demeanor. He is in control of his body movements and is repeatable. His Fb touched 57 and his ball has signs of movement. His CB has 10-4 shape and sat 46-48. His CH is in the early stages of development and showed signs of life at 52-6. At the plate, he shows he can handle the bat and generate consistent contact. Swings with energy and shows a strong desire to make adjustments. Overall, Michael is a young player with solid starting points. Scouts are eager to see his development at future BF events.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
