06/23/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Michael showed some improvements at the Omaha National World Series. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.31 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Feet are quick in gaining ground through a clean transfer/exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He shows a solid setup and sticks balls well in the zone and utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner. At the plate, hands are quick and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-75 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.
