08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Michael is an athletic 2B/SS that will graduate in 2014. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.79 60 time. Defensively, he has improved a lot since we saw him earlier this year. He utilizes his quick feet well in his lateral movements, displaying range in the MIF. Feet are active / aggressive as he works to square balls up showing clean hands. He attacks balls and plays through while presenting soft hands well out front through a low approach. Throws are accurate with carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. He also needs to work on planting his feet before throwing. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with balance. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, flashing gap to gap power and showing an ability to get his hips through. Working on breaking ball recognition and staying closed are a couple of areas he can work on. At the event, he was 3 for 10 with a HR. Michael is an instinctual and dependable 2B who wants to learn. He asks a lot of questions. He made every play at 2B all week. His mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable. He will without a doubt be a pleasure to coach in college.
