08/25/2019 - College PREP - Lodi (Sacramento), CA Michael continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. He did so behind the plate for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.00. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.20 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a squared setup with flexibility allowing his glove to work softly, sticking balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

02/12/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Michael is a lean, athletic 2020 outfield prospect with lots of potential on the field. He shows natural hitting instincts at the plate with the ability to use all fields and cover the entire strike zone. He shows a solid setup with a square stride and load to a power position. His lower half works well to generate bat speed and he makes consistent contact, spraying the ball to all fields for base hits. In the outfield, he gets good reads on the ball off the bat and works hard to track down everything hit his way. He makes all the plays and shows good recovery ability to provide good defensive help from his outfield spot. Implementing a long toss program will lead to more arm strength and better accuracy to become a threat throwing the ball. Michael is a prospect we look forward to following as he continues to progress.

07/10/2016 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Michael is a lean OF/RHP who will graduate in 2020. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.44 60 time. In the OF, he utilizes his athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. He works to get behind balls playing through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 61--64 mph with slight sinking action. Mental makeup is outstanding as he has a positive attitude, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 4 years to further develop, Michael has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
