11/06/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Hillsboro, OR Michael is a wiry built OF/SS prospect who has potential on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Michael has a crouched setup with a long stride and partially uses his lower half. He takes a long swing with average bat speed and a nice high finish. Michael consistently makes contact with a solid overall approach. In the outfield, Michael plays with effective footwork taking the correct angles to field the ball squarely. He has an aggressive approach with a firm glove and clean exchange. Michael has a loose arm action from a 3/4 slot leading to online throws. In the infield, Michael has a good first step giving him a good jump on the baseball. He fields the ball athletically and is not afraid to give up his body. Michael maintains his 3/4 arm slot at SS and his throws are online. Overall, Michael has projectable abilities and the opportunities to develop into a fine player at the next level.

06/12/2016 - College PREP - Keizer (Salem), OR Michael continues to show up at RHP/OF. In the outfield, Michael works well on getting around the baseball with a quick exchange. His hands are soft as he keeps his momentum moving toward his target. Strengthening his arm through of long toss program will help this OF take his game to the next level. On the mound, this righty commands the zone well. He is very relaxed and confident on the mound, showing great mound presence. Driving off of the rubber with his lower 1/2 along with finishing with more extension will help to improve effectiveness on the bump. Offensively, Michael has a solid/balanced setup. He keeps the barrel level through the zone hitting hard line drives. Letting the ball travel a little deeper into the zone will help him to use the whole field. This 2019 graduate has a solid skill-set with upside on the diamond.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Michael is a coachable, hardworking RHP/3B who has an athletic frame. In the IF, he is fundamentally sound, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up. He gathers well and has a clean exchange to throw. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the ‘in between' hop. Continuing to increase foot quickness will improve lateral range at 3B. At the plate he shows a soft / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. Working to get stride foot down sooner to work on time will improve hitting abilities. Power will increase as works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, he shows good mound presence and composure. Fastball showed in the high 60 range with tailing action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. With 2 years to further develop, Michael has raw abilities with time to continue to progress in his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
