Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Michael showed similar skills on the mound at the UA Preseason All-America as he did at the Christmas Camp in 2009. He is a huge, thick, athlete, with good mound presence. Michael has good direction to the plate, has good arm speed, and he is around the plate with his pitches. He throws strikes with his CB, and with more use of his lower 1/2, and better eyes to his target, abilities on the mound can further improve. Offensively, Michael has good balance and bat speed. He is a strong hitter, with pop in his bat, who can hit to all fields. Michael has a solid load and his swing is in rhythm. Michael can improve at the plate with more direct hands to the ball and by not choking the bat.

12/19/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #1 Williams continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.90 runner. Defensive and offensive abilities have improved but currently projects best on the mound. Defensive abilities are now solid average as he displays proper footwork around the bag. Throws show carry and accuracy into his target. Offensively, Michael has a solid eye as he shows a level swing path with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. On the mound, fastball displayed cutting action and is hard. Changeup is best off speed pitch showing sinking action. He attacks hitters, changing speeds well as he throws strikes with all his pitches.

11/08/2009 - College PREP - Shreveport, LA Michael is a big framed, 2-way player at both 1B and on the hill. He currently projects better as a RHP. On the mound, Michael has good balance, and great finish on his pitches. His FB was clocked at 86 MPH, and his CB and CH are also plus pitches. At 1B, Michael is an aggressive fielder, and he moves well laterally. He has an accurate arm with carry across the diamond. Getting quicker, and lighter on his feet, will only improve his abilities. At the plate, Michael is a strong hitter, that keeps his head and eyes on the ball through contact. If Michael can lower his elbow, shorten his swing, and get proper extension through the zone, his hitting numbers could improve. Overall, Michael is a talented player with a bright future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
