06/26/2023 - National Showcase - Rosemont (Chicago), IL MJ continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, defensive abilities are now well above average as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft and presents out front. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn.

01/08/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season Prospects Tournament (HS) MJ continues to shine on the diamond. At 2B, feet are active but needs to attack balls and play through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he continues to increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

12/06/2020 - All-In Membership - Lynwood (Chicago), IL MJ continues to shine on the diamond. At 2B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind, but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

09/04/2020 - MS All-Region Tournament MJ is a R/R 2B who continues to work hard on his skills. Defensively, he has active footwork and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He works lightly on the balls of his feet with good lateral range. He tracks the ball into a soft mitt and gathers well. Continuing to strengthen his arm (long toss) will aid in his defensive development. At the plate, this switch hitter shows more naturally from the right side. He has an athletic setup with rhythm to load. Swing is short/compact/direct as he connects and has the ability to drive the ball the other way. MJ is a skilled athlete who still has a ton of time to progress and physically mature (get stronger).

06/14/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Rosemont (Chicago), IL MJ continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. Throws are accurate with carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter but projects slightly better as a RHH. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all field through a solid line drive approach.

07/21/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) MJ continues to shine on the diamond with his baseball abilities. At 2B, he displays loose / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

11/15/2018 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 12-14) MJ showed at 2B and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. At 2B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up but needs to attack, playing through more with his body. Glove action is soft / clean presents out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turn of the double play. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter and how has improved, displaying similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

08/12/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Elgin (Chicago), IL MJ is a young 2-way player who plays OF and 2nd base. In the OF, MJ has good pre-pitch actions, efficient footwork, and he takes good routes to the ball. He fields aggressively in rhythm, has a clean exchange, and throws with momentum and consistency to his target. At 2nd base, MJ gets in a good ready position, he fields in a low/square position, and he sticks the ball cleanly. He has a clean exchange and throws with consistency across the diamond. At the plate, MJ can switch hit and is currently better from the right side. He has a good base, solid balance, and he swings aggressively. He has good feel for the barrel and solid bat speed. From the left side, MJ has good balance, a still head, and a middle of the field approach. Overall skills can improve if MJ can work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
