12/06/2009 - College PREP - Cedar Hill, TX Montana is a solidly build, 2-way player that pitches and plays 1B. On the mound, Montana has a heavy FB that touched 80 MPH, and his CH showed to be his best pitch. His mechanics are pretty sound and Montana has a good overall good idea on the mound. If Montana can get more extension, and finish his pitches, we could see more velocity out of this strong athlete. At 1B, Montana has good footwork, arm action, and good arm strength. He works well to get in front of the ball and smothers it well. Montana's ability at 1B should improve if he can quicken his release, and stay in a lower more athletic position from fielding to throwing. At the plate, Montana has good bat speed, a level swing, and keeps his head on the ball. He will need to work on his balance and load if he wants his offensive numbers to improve.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
