Official Scouting Report

  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2012 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic Hill continues to show as a RHP/SS but currently projects best in the MIF for the next level. Feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying soft / clean hands. He needs to play through balls and present hands more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Nate shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-73 mph and he pitches to contact. Breaking ball shows potential, displaying 12/6 shape with late depth. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and makes adjustments.

06/22/2012 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Hill continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.37. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he topped out at 77 mph. Fastball showed a range of 74-77 mph. Changeup shows solid arm side run and he throws strikes with all his pitches. At SS, he moves well laterally, especially to his glove side and displays clean hands. At the plate, he shows a balanced approach and quick hands that flash bat speed through the zone. His swing path is level and he shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. At the event, he was 3 for 10 with a 2B.

11/10/2011 - Pirate City Select Training - 2011 Nate showed similar skills on the mound and in the OF during his workout in Pirate City. On the mound Nate's FB touched 68 MPH and he spotted it well in the zone. He pitched to contact and got outs. In the INF, Nate shows good hustle, he makes the routine plays, and he keeps the ball in front of his body. His exchange is decent and he throws with good accuracy across the diamond. Offensively, Nate has a good / athletic setup and a level / rhythmic swing. He puts the ball in play consistently and can hit hard to the pull side.

11/11/2010 - Arizona Fall Select Training & Competition - 2010 Nate is a young, thin, 2-way player who Pitches and plays 3rd base. On the mound, Nate has solid balance and good direction toward home. He has a FB that touches 69 MPH, and a CH with some promise. He has plenty of time for improvement, and will need to work on command and continue to add arm strength to get better. In the INF, Nate has good balance, he plays on the balls of his feet, and he tries to field out in front of his body. He will need to get his glove down sooner, improve his accuracy, and add arm strength in order to improve defensive abilities. Offensively, Nate stays through the ball well and can hit to the opposite field. He went 2-8 in live at-bats and shows the ability to put the ball in play. Nate will need to improve his balance and bat speed for offensive numbers to spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
