04/14/2013 - College PREP - Albuquerque, NM Winrow has an athletic build with some length at 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds. He is a solid all around talent, with defensive skill both in the OF and behind the plate, and a solid right handed bat. Behind the plate, he posted a low pop time of 2.16 - footwork was solid, and he showed arm speed and the makings of arm strength. Exchange and overall body control are areas for improvement. To receive, he setup well and was quiet with his body and solid with his hands when he stayed soft. To block, he was quick down and got back to his feet well, but like throwing has room to improve his body control and stability in the action. In the OF, his feet worked to the ball and his play on the ball was solid. Did a good job of working through the catch into the throw, but tended to get uphill to throw and his short arm stroke robbed him of carry on the longer throws. Appears more naturally suited for C than OF. At the plate, he showed speed and life in his stroke. The ball came off his bat with life, despite a tendency to jump at the ball and to bar his lead arm. Can work to shorten stride, and stay softer with his lead arm - will keep him in a more athletic position, one that will enhance his natural ability to generate bat speed and to get the good part of the barrel to contact. Appears to have a knack for barrel accuracy, certainly a valuable attribute around which to build a hitter. Overall, a gifted player with potential to improve all around with better balance and body control.
